The decks were then sent over to L.A. Reid by Mercury Records President David Massey, who was at the time in charge for Island/Def Jam. Reid then was able to sign Decker to a contract with a record label. The first self-titled album under the name Jessie James arrived in August 2009. Jessie James was reasonably successful and included Wanted a single that brushed the Top 40 of the singles charts. Decker was a country singer who believed herself to be a traditional country musician in the past, was shocked to discover that the album was not promoted or made with an eye at a mass audience. Decker felt dissatisfied by the two other singles from the album the executives of the record label in search of more influence. Decker then released her second single Boys in the Summer which was more traditional. Decker launched her sophomore album under two names: Sweet American Dreams or Daughter of a Gypsy. Mercury shelved it after the first three singles failed to make it onto the country charts. Decker then was let go from the contract.
